Concrete Driveways near Belleville Public Square
The Public Square is the historic heart of Belleville, and the neighborhoods around it are some of the oldest in the city. That character is part of the appeal — but it also means a lot of the driveways here have been in the ground for decades, poured on bases that weren't built to today's standards and worn down by generation after generation of Illinois winters.
We install new concrete driveways throughout the downtown Belleville area, and we approach these properties differently than a flat lot in a new subdivision. The conditions near the Square have their own quirks, and getting a driveway to last here starts with reading them correctly.
What Makes Driveways Downtown Different
Older, settled bases. Many driveways in the historic district sit on original bases that have shifted and compacted unevenly over the years. Pouring new concrete over a bad base just repeats the problem. We tear out the old slab, regrade, and recompact before anything new goes down.
Mature trees and root systems. The established streets around the Square are lined with old trees, and their roots are a leading cause of cracked and heaved driveways here. We plan the base and jointing around those conditions rather than pouring as if the ground is going to stay still.
Tight lots and access. Downtown lots are narrower, driveways run close to the house and the neighbors, and alley access is common. We run our own trucks and equipment, so we handle tight-access tear-out and pours that a larger outfit would struggle to schedule around.
Drainage toward older homes. A lot of these driveways were poured with little thought to slope, so water runs toward the house or foundation. We set the grade to move water away from the structure — which matters more on an older home than almost anywhere else.
One Crew, Start to Finish
Because the "Truck Service" in our name is real, we own our trucks and excavation equipment. On a downtown Belleville driveway that means one crew handles the whole job: tearing out the old slab, hauling it off, prepping and compacting the base, setting the forms, and pouring the finish. No separate demolition company, no waiting on an outside hauler to clear the old concrete before we can start.
That control matters most on the older, tighter properties near the Square, where coordinating multiple crews on a small lot turns a straightforward job into a scheduling headache.
Our Process
1. Free on-site estimate. We come out, look at the existing driveway and the lot, check the base, the drainage, and the access, and measure. You get a written price before any work starts.
2. Tear-out and haul-away. We remove the old driveway with our own crew and trucks and clear the debris.
3. Base prep and grading. We regrade and compact the sub-base and set the slope to drain water away from the house.
4. Forming and reinforcement. Forms and reinforcement go in, planned around trees, access, and the shape of the lot.
5. Pour and finish. We pour, finish, and set the surface texture, timed to the weather.
6. Curing. We tell you exactly how long to stay off it before foot and vehicle traffic.
